Cry

There’s a common misconception that crying is a sign of weakness. And it’s a stereotype we need to break. Crying is often therapeutic and it’s a healthy way to express emotion. It’s a way to overcome difficult feelings and must be normalized for men, women, parents and kids. To describe that, I’ve written a short verse and I’d love some feedback!

Feel the weight of the world,
On her wearied shoulders,
Strives to stay stoic,
As the tension smolders,
Her hands start trembling,
Her lower lip quivers,
Her eyes reveal,
A tell-tale shimmer,
A lonesome droplet,
Spills down her cheek,
Deceived by emotion,
They surmise she is weak.

The brackish water,
Stings her aching wounds,
That now lay bare,
A plight so cruel,
It wracks her body,
Relinquished control,
Once tears of affliction,
Now cleanse her soul,
She takes a deep breath,
Stoic and somber,
You thought it was weakness,
But she..
Shes's never been stronger.

Crying doesn’t have to be seen as weakness. On the contrary, it’s quite brave to dare & cry.

  17. Lovely poem. And so true. Tears isn’t a weakness. It’s a human way of coping with whatever hardships which would otherwise makes them self-destruct.

It’s definitely wayy too late for me, we were taught stringently from childhood that we must never cry, the guys. It’s so deeply ingrained now. I think it was a good lesson I might pass on to a son someday, there are other therapeutic ways we’ve made due with for generations.
I’m not contradicting you, I’m just saying..
    Loved the post though, compelling.

I understand, the motive isn’t to convince everyone to cry, rather to convince those who do- that it’s okay to do so. Everyone’s coping mechanism is different, I respect that! Thank you!
